Create The Life And Work You Love

Are you ready to create the life and work you love and want?

Do you feel like “now is the time?” – Great news! you are in the right place. Keep reading.

First, let’s keep it real. Then, I promise…we will get to the good stuff.

If you’ve ever felt dissatisfied with your life and work and found yourself feeling weary with thoughts like, “There has to be more than this. This is too hard. There has to be work that is more satisfying, energizing, and pays more money.” Does this sound like you? Keep reading…it gets worse.

How did it come to this? Did you choose your work or did you fall into it by chance or convenience? It may be good work and you can see how it helps people but is it work that you would do even if you weren’t being paid? Did you take what appeared in front of you or that someone referred you to, simply as a means to an end. The end being, “paying the bills, keeping a roof over your head, and putting food on the table?”

Has your confidence and your self-esteem taken a beating and when you look in the mirror, if you even dare to look, you see a shadow of the vibrant, energetic self that you used to be?

Did you tell yourself when you were younger that you would never settle for a mediocre life and now you are smack dab in the middle of one?

Did you wake up one morning, feeling reluctant to get out of bed because you have lost your joy of life?

Are you now finding out that there is a big difference between making a life of convenience and creating a life on purpose?

Many people get to a day in their lives when they turn thirty, forty, or fifty years old, wake up and find they are miserable in their jobs, their business, or in their entire life. They chose the well-travelled path instead of the “path less-travelled”. They heave a sigh of unhappiness because they just don’t know which way to turn. There are so many questions and a confusion of answers.

“Should you go back to school and retrain yourself for different work?”

“What about starting a business?”

“Should you quit your job and become a dog-walker?”

“Is it better to find a business you can do on the weekends or in the evenings than this one that has taken over your entire life?”

“Should you move to Thailand and start doing yoga retreats?”

Ok, enough of all that, right? The questions are endless. It’s easy to keep looking outside yourself for answers when the true answer is inside you. Before asking these questions it’s important to know three things.

All human beings (and I believe you are most definitely one of these beings) – are capable of amazing things. You have imagination and unlimited creativity that you can tap into. Remember when you were a child and believed any and everything was possible. That “possibility” is still there – that belief – it’s waiting to be awakened and revived.

You have something unique to give that no one else can give. Scientists estimate the odds of you being born, to your parents, with your talents, your strengths, your weaknesses, are 1 in 4 trillion. There is no one who has ever existed, exists, or will ever exists, who has your exact set of characteristics, DNA, experiences, skills, and memories, in the exact combination as you do.

You have an obligation to share your unique gifts with your family, your friends, your workmates, your community, the world. When you look at things that way, it makes it easier to connect to the reason you do what you do. Your true purpose. Yes, we all have a purpose.

So, instead of jumping right to the questions about “what to do”, why not examine yourself to get clear about “why?” There are three questions that can help you get to the answer to “why”.

Who can you help and how?

What do you want to have in your life?

How do you want to grow – who do you want to become, how do you want to be remembered?

For me, the answers came as an insight, one beautiful sunny day in May of 2010. As I walked across a desolate mountain path in the Himalayas on the way to Mt. Everest Base Camp. My insight was this, I realized that the only thing that belonged to me was the ground beneath my feet. The second insight that followed was this, wherever I place my feet, I belonged.

With remarkable clarity I saw that what I wanted was to be stepping other places than into hospitals and clinics to sell surgical equipment, as I was doing, in my current job. I determined to go back and work hard for another year and prepare my exit to pursue my coaching business full-time, instead of in the nooks and crannies of my full-time job as a medical sales representative. I saw that I wanted to write books and blog about what I had learned on this leadership retreat in Nepal. And I wanted to help others to find the answers to those three questions. I wanted to create the life of my dreams and help others to do the same.

The sooner you are able to answer these three questions for yourself, the sooner you can get to your own insights that lead to clarity. And the sooner you will find unlimited success.
